Excellence In Diversity and Equality
This award celebrates those organisations who champion equality, diversity and human rights every day. They have a strong ethos of ‘opportunity for all’ giving every individual a chance to achieve their potential, free from prejudice and discrimination.
The judges will be looking for
- Examples of initiatives that demonstrate an organisation’s equality and diversity culture.
- Projects which you consider demonstrate excellence in the way in which Diversity and Equality are managed and applied within your organisation.
- These could be held up as examples to others for its achievements.
- Tangible and demonstrable results of the initiative’s success should also be evidenced.
BT’s ‘TechWomen’ project is both a network and a development programme for BT’s talented women in technological and related roles from across its global organisation. It focuses on developing self-awareness, personal skills, connections and confidence; better equipping women to overcome personal and professional challenges to reach their potential.

“I am a former professional actor and writer, and now lead the EMEA Sales Operations function for Smiths Medical, a division of Smiths Group PLC.
On behalf of Smiths, I have been responsible for the development and delivery of a diverse range of cross functional initiatives that supported large-scale business transformation and change. Programmes included operating model consolidation, organizational restructuring, M&A integration/transition, product development, and digital application development.
I am also passionate about Diversity and Inclusion, currently serving as a Global co-chair of Smiths Medical’s Women’s Leadership Network (~150 members), and previously as a co-chair of the UK Diversity and Equality Network. I previously served for 3 years as a Global co-chair of Smiths Medical’s ‘Ambassador’ network, who act as employee engagement champions for the business.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and animals, playing tennis, and writing.

“I have specialised in Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) for nearly 20 years and was recognised by The Economist and The Daily Telegraph as one of the Top 10 D&I Professional Consultancies in the world. I run a consultancy specialising in D&I strategy and their effective and sustainable implementation. My clients include many global companies and gained much of her global experience leading D&I in companies in both Retail and Investment Banking (Barclays, Barclays Capital, HBOS and Nomura).
In 2014 I authored an independent review for the UK Government Secretary of State Dr.Vince Cable on Women on Boards and Executive Search Firms and I am the co-author of the recent Financial Times published book ‘Inclusive Leadership – the definitive guide to developing and executing an impactful Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, locally and globally’, which was shortlisted for Management Book of the Year by The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in 2018.
I was also recognised in the New Years Honours 2017 list with Officers of the British Empire (OBE) for my services to Women and Equalities.”

Yes, you can enter as many individuals as you like for this Leadership Award.
Can I nominate myself for this award?
Individuals cannot apply themselves but should be nominated by a reporting line manager/Head of/Director or previous employer. The nomination should be endorsed by an additional peer, stakeholder or client.
When is entry deadline?
Entry deadlines for the Innovation, Lean Six Sigma and Leadership awards are all on the 31st of October.
