Surrey and Sussex Probation Trust has achieved 5 stars in the Recognised for Excellence (R4E) programme.
This is a very impressive achievement as it follows the Trust's creation in April 2010 from the merger of Sussex Probation Area (which previously achieved R4E at 5-star level) with Surrey Probation Area. Despite the challenges of bringing together two successful trusts, the new organisation has overcome these to demonstrate outstanding performance.
The Trust manages some 8,000 offenders in the community and in prisons. It employs around 670 staff in Surrey and Sussex working in seven prisons, two approved premises, magistrates' courts and crown courts and 12 main office locations.
R4E is part of the EFQM Levels of Excellence programme and is designed for organisations that are well on their way to organisational excellence. It recognises successful efforts to implement excellence and good practice, and offers the benefits of a structured approach to identifying organisational strengths and areas for improvement as well as an external point of view.
