The EFQM Excellence Model will help you assess where you are on the path to excellence

EFQM Excellence Model

Why do we need an Excellence Model? Why do we need an excellence model?

Regardless of sector, size, structure or maturity, all organisations need to establish an appropriate management framework to be successful.

While there are many performance improvement tools and techniques available, at the BQF we recommend that organisations who want to achieve excellence use the EFQM Excellence Model.

EFQM Excellence Model

Used by thousands of organisations across Europe, the EFQM Excellence Model is a practical, non-prescriptive framework that enables organisations to:

  • Understand their key strengths and potential gaps in relation to their stated vision and mission
  • Effectively communicate ideas within and outside the organisation
  • Integrate existing and planned initiatives, removing duplication and identifying gaps
  • Provide a basic structure for the organisation’s management system

'The benefits of the Model are well-proven in world-class companies and we are keen to follow their lead and achieve similar levels of success. It is widely used across Siemens in the UK and has achieved fantastic results.'
Gordon Wakeford, Managing Director of Siemens Infrastructure and Cities, Siemens Mobility

'(The Model) helps to measure delivery against strategic goals, brings consistency to management style and drives innovation.'
Sir Patrick Brown, Chairman, Go-Ahead Group

An introduction to EFQM and the EFQM Excellence Model

Integrated componentsIntegrated components

The Model is supported by integrated components which together can enable an organisation to improve its performance and achieve sustainable success:

  • Fundamental Concepts of Excellence - the underlying principles of the Model which are the essential foundation of achieving sustainable excellence for any organisation.
  • RADAR logic - a dynamic assessment framework and powerful management tool

Harnessing these has helped organisations of all sizes and from all sectors to compare themselves with the attributes, qualities and achievements of sustainable organisations. They can be used to develop a culture of excellence, bring consistency to management style, access good practices, drive innovation and improve results.

Excellence criteria

The Model is based on nine criteria: five of these are 'Enablers' and four are 'Results':

Enablers

Results

1. Leadership

1. People Results

2. People

2. Customer Results

3. Strategy

3. Society Results

4. Partnerships and Resources

4. Key Results

5. Processes, Products and Services

The arrows in the diagram below emphasise the dynamic nature of the Model, showing how 'Learning, Creativity and Innovation' help to improve the 'Enablers' that in turn lead to improved 'Results'.
