How to become an Award Assessor

The British Quality Foundation enjoys the voluntary services of about 120 assessors every year to help with its annual Award programme. Award Assessors must have received the relevant Assessor Training, delivered by BQF or the EFQM. Teams of assessors are briefed in the Award process, teamwork and how to conduct site visits before being assigned to evaluate an Award applicant.

Time commitment from these volunteers can be anything from 10 - 15 working days per year, depending on experience and training needs. Assessors must be available for site visits in mid June.

Benefits of acting as an Award Assessor

  • The opportunity to experience best practice and how the Excellence Model is used in other organisations
  • Strategic skills such as identifying improvement opportunities and benchmarking
  • Enhancement of basic skills e.g. leadership, teamwork and communication
  • Improved understanding of the Excellence Model and its application
  • Recognition for Assessors & their organisations in publications and at the annual Award Ceremony
